'THE ROCK' - A PARABLE OF APOSTASY.

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart
from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils."
(1 Timothy 4:1)

"Pedal to the metal, driver! Let's get this church going!"

THE ROCK

(I took a pencil and I wrote
These lines that you now read,
A small sad ode I hope you'll note
If such might be your need!)

"Let's shift our church!" the leaders said,
"This Rock feels far too rough!
Let's build it on the beach instead -
We think that's soft enough!"

"Lead on!" the people cried with glee,
"The Rock's not to our taste -
We'll find a nice spot by the sea!
Let's go, and with all haste!"

And so that church was quickly moved
And built upon the sand;
The laws of logic soon were proved:
Its walls fast ceased to stand...

The Rock's the only place to be:
The cost to leave it's great!
The Rock's our sole security,
Too many find too late!

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them,
I  will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock;
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew,
and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not,
shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew,
and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

(The words of Jesus, as recorded in Matthew 7:24-27)
